In this subreddit we roll our eyes and snicker at minimum system requirements. This is a community for anyone struggling to find something to play for that older system, or sharing or seeking tips for how to run that shiny new game on yesterday's hardware. Found a cool game that runs fantastic on a lower end system? Do you have a guide for running a newer game below the minimum requirements? My laptop is the lowest end available as far as I know, with 32MB of video memory. I guess the CPU just does a lot of the work for it?
Despite having so little memory it's still able to play most games from 2007 or earlier if they're on the lowest possible settings, and even some newer ones.I can play Oblivion, Halo 2, Mirror's Edge, Quake 4, CoD titles, Half Life 2, Left4Dead 2, Street Fighter 4 (at a solid 60fps at 640x400) etc. All of these games hold a high framerate at all times, I'm too anal to play games with lag.Virtually no game can hold a good framerate above 800x600, though. You can flawlessly emulate all consoles older than and including the N64, and probably most Dreamcast games too. Some games which are too powerful for it (even with mods to lower reqs): Saints Row 2/3, Skyrim, Motogp 14, Metro 2033, Dark Souls, Alien Isolation.Works great for me. I'd been playing almost nothing but Halo since 2001, and now I'm separated from my Xbox I have years of PC titles to work through. What's the clock speed of the CPU? Maybe those are also choke points for yours.Fallout 3 just about worked for me, but the framerate wasn't solid enough.
With de-clutter mods it ran alright but looked pretty ugly.Mirror's Edge worked great on mod-free lowest settings with zero framerate drops.Check whether you can edit the BIOS to increase the VRAM for games, or maybe over clock the CPU? Your laptop must be really close to being able to run these games. Some step down games maybe. Halo CE, Morrowind, Half Life 2?. Not sure how far back you're willing to go, but the original Shadow Warrior would run fine and that game is great (don't let the graphics fool you). The original Deus Ex is great, too, though it has more of a story focus than Shadow Warrior. Honestly, I'd just try going on GOG.com and looking at their catalog as most every game on there is old and optimized for newer OS's.Also, the min requirement for Star Wars: Battlefront 1 and 2 is 64mb, so you might be able to play those (not sure how comfortably, though).
If you can then they have a bunch of good mods.
